40 fold increase in attacks on food production in US
16 June 2022
There have been 56 attacks on US food production and processing plants in the 46 days to
Attacks on US food production April 2021 to April 2022 Many types of food production, processing and distribution facilities have been attacked. About half of the attacks have involved poultry. The chickens and turkeys have been killed in 29 attacks over 46 days between 4 March 2022 and 19 April 2022. 22,849,400 chickens and 1,486,600 turkeys have been killed. If a turkey is five times the weight of a chicken this equates to 30,282,400 chickens. Peta states nine billion chickens are killed for food in the US every year. Here. This averages 1,134,246,575 per 46 days. Therefore the number of birds killed in attacks over that 46 day period is equivalent to 2.7% of total consumption.
A nation with reserves of food can buffer temporary supply line interruptions but cannot quickly replace the production cycle. Therefore this is not a matter of 2.7% but 2.7% every Assuming that the attacks on other forms of food production in the US are at least equal to the loss of chickens and turkeys the total food production has already been cut by 12%. If the sabotage continues at the same rate as during the 46 days to 19 April it implies food production will have been reduced by 15% in July, 20% in August and 25% in early October. It is significant that the latest figures provided end on 19 April 2022. This implies that more recent figures are being held back. Source material is published by Lighthouse Economics. 11 June 2022.
